What Are Venturers ?   Scouts Scouting, also known as the Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth movement with the stated aim of supporting young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, so that they may play constructive roles in society. Scouting began in 1907 when Robert Baden-Powell, Lieutenant General in the British Army, held the first Scouting encampment at Brownsea Island in England. Baden-Powell wrote the principles of Scouting in Scouting for Boys (London, 1908), based on his earlier military books.   Venturers A Venturer is a male or female, aged between 14 and 18 years old, dedicated to fun and adventure, whilst serving the community in the Scouting way. By taking part in the many opportunities available to you as a Venturer you will experience fun, fellowship and personal growth.   Units and Unit Councils Venturer Scouts, formerly Senior Scouts, is the fourth section of Scouts Australia, and was first formed in 1946. Venturers are aged between 14 and 18 years of age and are organised into Units, which can be a part of a single Scout Group or a stand alone group. Both types of Unit take Scouts from any Scout Group. A Venturer Unit is run by its Unit Council, usually consisting of a Unit Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and some General Members. Some larger units also include a Assistant Unit Chair, Social Secretary, Fundraising Co-ordinator, Quartermaster or assistant Secretaries and Treasurers. While the younger sections are represented by their leaders at the District level, Venturers are encouraged to attend their monthly District or Zone Venturer Council. A Zone is where two or more districts combine.
